Albion’s young defenders have been urged to learn from the internationals.

The club’s three senior centre-backs are all away with the national teams thanks to Lewis Dunk’s call-up by England.

Development squad boss Simon Rusk believes young defenders like Ben White and Ben Barclay can take a lot from Dunk, Shane Duffy (Republic of Ireland) and Leon Balogun (Nigeria).

Rusk told The Argus: “There are some good centre-halves for the lads to take a lot from.

“This will certainly encourage the lads to take a look at Dunky’s qualities and Duffy’s qualities and see if they can draw on that and improve their own game off the back of that.

“I’m delighted for Lewis. He absolutely deserves it and it gives everyone at the club a boost.

“There are a lot of people at the club like (coach) Vic Bragg, who has been here a long time.

“I think it is really nice for people like Vic to see that reward for Dunky.”

Two more Albion youngsters have headed off on international duty after helping the under-21s impress at Peterborough on Tuesday.

Viktor Gyokeres and Peter Gwargis linked up with Sweden under-20s and under-19s respectively.
