Percy Tau has defended his move to the Belgian second tier via Albion to the South African media.

Tau is a huge star back home and is likely to lead his national team’s attack against Seychelles in their African Nations qualifier on Saturday.

His move to Union St-Gilloise surprised and disappointed many in South Africa.

But he has provided three league assists and struck up an impressive attacking partnership with Youssouf Niakate to help USG go top of the table.

Speaking after a training session and PR exercise at a Johannesburg school, Tau said: “All is well in Belgium. We are on top at the moment. We have had good performances in the cup and league and I believe that we are beginning to get stronger as a team.

“People will always have opinions on things and they are entitled to that. I am happy with this path I have chosen because I have done it before and things worked out in my favour.

“I once went out on loan to Witbank Spurs (from Mamelodi Sundowns) and things worked out pretty well for me later on.”

South Africa were held 0-0 at home by group leaders Libya last time out while Seychelles were losing 3-0 at home to Leon Balogun’s Nigeria.

Tau is likely to be paired with Lille’s in-form striker Lebo Mothiba, who missed the Libya game, on Saturday.

Balogun should feature for Nigeria at home to Libya tomorrow.

Yves Bissouma’s Mali have opened with a pair of wins as they prepare for two fixtures against second-placed Burundi, tomorrow and on Tuesday.

Gaetan Bong’s Cameroon are playing in the qualifiers, despite being assured of their finals place as hosts. They take on Malawi home and away.
