Ex-Saint Neil McCann has been sacked as the manager of Dundee United.

The former winger joined Saints in 2003 from Rangers but only went on to make 40 appearances after his time on the south coast was hampered by injuries.

McCann scored one goal during his time at St Mary’s which was against Northampton in a League Cup game.

He left Saints by mutual consent in 2006 when he took the opportunity to play in his native Scotland with Hearts.

However, the 44-year-old ruptured his medial knee ligament in his first match back which ruled him out for the season.

After spells with Falkirk and Dundee, he eventually retired from professional football in 2011.

McCann took up his first post as a manager with Dundee when he took over the Scottish Premiership side on an interim basis in April, 2017, before leaving them at the end of the season.

He returned to the club this summer after being awarded the managerial position on a permanent basis.

But with Dundee only picking up three points from their opening eight games, the former Saints man was sacked from his role.
