Albion won away for the first time in 11 months at Newcastle. Here is how Brian Owen and Andy Naylor rated the players.

MATHEW RYAN 8: Made a key save very early and added some crucial stops, the best from Shelvey's deflected free-kick.

BRUNO 8: Lots of composure and some important tackles and positional play. And he was right about the crowd too.

SHANE DUFFY 9: Only statsmen will know how many headed clearances he made. But their numbers won't give him due credit for his part in the goal.

LEWIS DUNK 9: Dare one say he was international class? With Duffy, ruled in the air - and also saved a goal with a brilliant block on the deck.

GAETAN BONG 7: The defender who was least at ease, notably early hesitation which could have gifted Toon a dream start. But some good stuff too.

DALE STEPHENS 7: Satisfying return from two-match absence with hamstring trouble, renewing Championship partnership with Kayal. Lots of unfussy work.

BERAM KAYAL 7: A midfielder scores at last! Flicked in the winner to continue rich run of form. Typically energetic contribution included a caution.

ALIREZA JAHANBAKHSH 7: Goal came from his corner and had second half chance to get on scoresheet himself on full away debut after scoring midweek for Iran. Booked for foul.

SOLLY MARCH 7: Retained as the No.10 with Gross not ready to return just yet. Gradually getting to grips with it and went close to rare goal with second half shot.

The Argus: JOSE IZQUIERDO 7: (Above) Has a knack of making things happen. Clean strike by the Colombian led to the crucial goal on his first start of the season.

GLENN MURRAY N/A: Thank goodness he is okay after sickening clash of heads. That 100th goal will have to wait for now.

JURGEN LOCADIA 6: Put in a shift in isolated role.

BERNARDO: No alarms after replacing injured Bruno.
