Jose Izquierdo thought he had scored at Newcastle.

But he will happily take the win.

The Colombian's shot was touched home by Beram Kayal to secure a 1-0 success at Newcastle.

Albion marked the anniversary of their first away win in the Premier League by opening their account on the road this term.

And Izquierdo, who scored his first goal of last season in that 3-0 win at West Ham, fleetingly appeared to have staged a repeat of his own.

But the goal was credited to Kayal - after the two men ran off in opposite directions, both celebrating.

Izquierdo told The Argus: “I didn’t realise or didn’t see that he touched the ball in the end.

“There were a lot of legs in the box.

“I didn’t see the ball going in but I knew I was the one who shot.

“I didn’t see a team-mate touch the ball.

“After, I knew they gave the goal to Beram. No problem.

“The important thing is the goal helped us win the game.

“We are a team where the first principle is the team."
