Bernardo is happy to be Albion’s man for a defensive emergency.
The versatile Brazilian expects to be back on the bench when Wolves visit on Saturday.
Bernardo went on when Bruno suffered a back problem during the second half at Newcastle.
But Martin Montoya will start if the skipper is ruled out.
Bernardo said: “Chris Hughton puts me on the bench because I can play at left and right-back.
“That’s what I think. I don’t know.
“Monty played really good matches and I think he is the first second-option at right-back, not me.
“I’m more for an emergency case.
“I don’t know Bruno’s situation.
“My fight is to play on the left side and I’m trying to be ready for when the emergency comes.”
