Albion have their first ever win in the top-flight of women’s football – and Hope Powell says it is a “massive” result.
First-half goals from Jodie Brett, the club’s first at home this season, and Victoria Williams secured a 2-1 win at home to Yeovil.
The visitors replied through Ellie Mason after her initial penalty had been saved by Marie Hourihan.
But Albion, who started the day a point clear of Yeovil, held on without too many scares.
They wasted chances to increase their margin and saw both Ini Umotong and Williams denied by fine saves.
Albion boss Powell said of the win: “It’s massive. We knew this would be a pretty close contest.
“This gives us a bit of daylight, four points now.
“Hopefully, it will give us some momentum.
“We are under no illusions, we still have a long way to. It’s tough but credit to the girls today.”
Brett scored on 14 minutes after a swift counter-attack down the Albion right featuring Kayleigh Green, who had a frustrating day in front of goal.
Williams struck what proved to be the winner after Dani Buet’s corner had caused chaos, following up after her fellow centre-back Laura Rafferty had attempted a volley.
