Jose Izquierdo wants to rejoin Albion’s growing band of internationals - because he reckons that will mean he is back on the scoresheet with his club.

Izquierdo hopes to open his account at Everton on Saturday as the Seagull chase a fourth successive win.

He has remained on the international sidelines since suffering a knee injury at the World Cup.

The winger used glittering Premier League strikes last season to propel himself into the thoughts of national boss Jose Pekerman.

He believes it might take the same to impress current coach Arturo Reyes.

Albion will certainly not be complaining if he delivers.

Izquierdo told The Argus: “National team? Not yet. I think for that to happen I need to score a few goals!

“But I’m good, I’m making up the competition that I lost when I wasn’t playing.

“You don’t just do that in training sessions.

“I’m trying to catch up and get that feeling with the ball, the moves with the team-mates.

“You get that bit by bit.”

Albion are close to being able to name a full team of current senior international squad members when all players are fit, although it would not necessarily be their strongest XI.

Izquierdo said: “We have strengthened the squad with some very good players.”
