Albion boss Chris Hughton is keeping tabs on Aaron Connolly as the free-scoring Republic of Ireland striker tries to help the under-23s to the top of the table.

Simon Rusk's side, promoted last season, are third in Premier League 2, two points behind leaders and tomorrow's Lancing training complex visitors Everton (7pm).

Connolly has scored 11 goals in their 13 games in all competitions this season. They have lost only once, at second-placed Derby.

Hughton said: "We take a great interest in the under-23s. On lots of occasions individuals will train with us.

"We are very aware of Aaron's strengths. He has continued what he has always done, scored goals.

"He is playing in a good team. Credit to Simon Rusk and his staff, they are having a very good season and probably surpassed most people's expectations going into the level of league they are now.

"He is very much on our radar but he is one of a good group of players that are excelling this season."
