Albion eye up another win on the road, writes Ryan Elliott, football writer at Oddschecker.

The Result

Albion’s 3-1 defeat at Goodison Park was less a crash back down to earth but more a gentle reminder of what the team’s true aspirations should still be – staying in the Premier League.

It is a mark of how far Albion have come that losing to a very good Everton side away from home was met by murmurings of fan discord, but Chris Hughton’s sole focus will still be on survival; Albion’s excellent start has simply made that task slightly easier.

The trip to South Wales is a much more realistic opportunity to register a second away victory – which would equal last season’s tally – where Neil Warnock’s Cardiff await.

Albion will certainly feel that the Bluebirds are there for the taking: they have one win all season, coupled with the third-leakiest defence in the division – conceding 24 – makes this a game Hughton will definitely target.

It is easy to look at Cardiff’s 4-2 win over Fulham last month as a possible indicator for what may happen on Saturday. However, Albion will not be nearly as charitable in defence as Fulham were, and I’m not convinced about hosts’ ability to break down a more resolute outfit.

Though the results have not quite shown it, Albion are a much-improved side on the road this season. For that reason, I’m backing them to win at a massive 21/10. That price, to beat Cardiff, is possibly too good to turn down.

The Banker

Once again, my banker is under 2.5 goals in the match.

Neil Warnock’s side are perhaps not as goal-shy as many predicted at the start of the season – netting nine times thus far (though four of them were against Fulham) – and oddly the Bluebirds have scored against Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

But firing blanks against Bournemouth, Newcastle and Huddersfield (who were both down to ten men for half-an-hour), and Leicester, is more reflective of their true attacking qualities, and they simply do not possess the sort of quality which will regularly trouble this solid Albion defence.

On the flip side, I still do not see enough goals from this Albion side if Glenn Murray is taken out of the equation; which makes under 2.5 goals at 29/50 a decent-looking prospect.

The Longshot

When deciding on this week’s longshot, it took just a quick glance at the respective squads to come to my conclusion.

Only Josh Murphy and Callum Paterson have scored more than one league goal for Cardiff this season – they both have two – while Albion’s second-top scorer is Shane Duffy, also with two.

This leaves one man head and shoulders above every other player on the pitch in the goalscoring department: Glenn Murray.

The veteran’s goal tally of six is bettered only by Eden Hazard, Sergio Agüero and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – esteemed company indeed.

If ever there was somebody on the pitch to break the deadlock in what will most likely be a nip-and-tuck, gritty affair, it’s Albion’s centurion.

Murray to be the first goalscorer is a massive 26/5.
