Andy Naylor and Brian Owen deliver their verdicts on the Albion players after their controversial late defeat at Cardiff.

Mathew Ryan 7 Although Cardiff threw a lot of balls and bodies into the box, he didn't have that much to do.

Most of it was dealt with by the defenders in front of him but competent when called upon.

Martin Montoya 7 Recall suggests he will be sharing right-back duties with skipper and fellow Spaniard Bruno. Steady enough after spell on the sidelines, keeping Murphy quiet.

Shane Duffy 7 Cardiff's aerial bombardment meat and drink to the Irishman and his partner. Furious that the offside winner undid all the customary diligence.

Lewis Dunk 8 Two headed goals in as many games now from March deliveries and the rest of his performance emphasised his England credentials.

Gaetan Bong 6 Started the game well but could have done better for Cardiff's equaliser and Harris was a bright opponent.

Anthony Knockaert 6 Looked eager on his return to the side and set up a chance for March after popping up on the left when things were going well.

Beram Kayal 7 A lot of midfield responsibility and was as busy as would be expected without picking up the yellow card which would have added to Albion’s potential midfield headache.

Dale Stephens 5 A hotly disputed red card as he won two challenges, the second of them more contentious. Had time to make one important tackle before his pivotal exit.

Jose Izquierdo 6 Albion’s best counter-attacking outlet and tested Etheridge at 1-1 after earlier taking a bad option when well-placed. Did some good defensive work.

Solly March 6 Whatever your views on Stephens’ level of culpability, March was the innocent victim. Set up a goal and looked bright before being sacrificed.

Glenn Murray 6 Had a shot blocked after some clever work straight after Cardiff’s leveller but was generally snuffed out in his battle with the big men.

SUBS

Yves Bissouma 6: Sent on to fill the Stephens void and, while he still doesn’t always seem totally up to speed, did some good work.

Florin Andone 6: Looks quick, combative and industrious, as we were told he would be.
