LEWIS DUNK has been told he deserves to earn an England cap.

But sidekick Shane Duffy says Albion’s No.5 has already improved thanks to his involvement with the Three Lions.

Dunk did not feature in games away to Croatia and Spain last time out.

But he is widely fancied to get some playing time when England face the USA at Wembley tonight.

Duffy, with whom he has forged a steely partnership for Albion, will not be able to watch it live as he plays for the Republic of Ireland.

But he will be rooting for his club colleague.

Duffy told The Argus: “I’ll be hoping he gets on. I think he deserves it with the season he has been having.

“Everyone speaks so highly of him and, hopefully, he can kick on.

“He went there last time and got a taste of it and since he has come back he has been a better player.

“That’s purely down to confidence. Being in an England squad is the top you can get.

“He got there with hard work and believing in himself and fully deserves everything he gets.”

England coach Gareth Southgate sent hopes among Albion fans soaring as he said: “We’ve got players with high motivation. There will be some debuts.”

Southgate was asked whether tonight’s game is a chance to see new players, including Dunk, in action.

He replied: “It’s a big night for a lot of players and a good opportunity for us to see some young players.

“We will have a lot of talent on the pitch. We maybe won’t have so much experience so it’s going to be a really good test for those players.”

Duffy will be in action in a friendly against Northern Ireland.
