Crawley are pulling out all the stops to set up a big FA Cup night at Broadfield.

They are targeting a second-round tie at home to League One high-flyers Barnsley – if they can first topple Southend United in a replay.

A cup run would be a timely shot in the arm for Crawley, who are exploring all ways of offering head coach Gabriele Cioffi an increased playing budget while also improving the club’s infrastructure.

They have extended ticket office hours today and cut prices to £5 for adults for tomorrow’s first round replay - and report tickets to be selling fast.

A selection of senior players will be helping out in the ticket office today for an hour from 3pm. The office remains open from 8am until 7pm.

Reds would love to reach the second round for the first time since 2013 and kept those hopes alive with a very creditable 1-1 draw at Roots Hall nine days ago.

Cioffi’s men go into the contest on the back of a 1-0 defeat at Grimsby in League Two which extends their winless run to six games.

Josh Payne and Ollie Palmer both went close in the first half, when Crawley looked the more dangerous side.

But Grimsby improved after the break and grabbed the points through Ahkeem Rose in the 86th minute when he was left unmarked at a free-kick.

Cioffi said: “We looked the better side in the first half but this is something that makes no sense.

“In the second half, did we deserve to draw? Yes, absolutely. But we lost.

“We had a good mentality, we had a good balance, we had a chance to score.

“I’m confident we will soon find the way to score. There is a lot of stuff which is positive.

“But have to understand what we did wrong. Two minutes wrong cost us the match.”

He added: “I’m really upset – not for the performance but for the result.”
