Albion boss Chris Hughton has accused his players of not exploiting their extra man in the wasteful home draw with Leicester.

The Seagulls were 1-0 up at the Amex through another Glenn Murray goal and playing against ten men for the last hour after James Maddison was sent-off for the visitors for two bookable offences in quick succession.

Hughton’s half-time instructions fell on deaf ears as Jamie Vardy, on the bench for Leicester after injury, came on to level with a penalty given away by Beram Kayal.

Hughton told The Argus: “The instructions were normal, you have to use that man advantage, which means you have to keep possession really well and work for your openings.

“At times we were decent on the ball. I thought we needed to stretch them more.

“We were still able to get the ball into wide positions. If Jose (Izquierdo) holds his line a little bit he is through on two occasions, two offsides.

“There were numerous shots coming in from wide areas. You also have to give them credit. They are a good side, a very energetic side, and they played the right game.

“They sat, played on the counter-attack and they have got good players and can make good changes.

“We just didn’t play well enough in the second half.

“Ultimately it’s my responsibility but when the 90 minutes are up I can’t do anything. You can work on things and encourage them from the side and push them on but the responsibility is theirs once they are on the pitch.”

Hughton is hopeful Murray and goalkeeper Mathew Ryan will be fit for Saturday’s trip to Huddersfield.

Murray suffered a knock early on and played the second half with his right thigh strapped before limping off near the finish.

Ryan needed second half treatment for a right ankle injury which threatened to wreck his ever-present record.

Hughton said: “Maty took a whack, Glenn similar. My feeling is they will both be alright.”
