Dean Cox paid emotional tribute to his former boss tonight – in the way he knows best.

The former Albion winger scored two goals which sent Eastbourne Borough on the way to a 3-2 FA Trophy replay win at Dartford.

His double came on the first anniversary of the death of Dermot Drummy.

It was Drummy who signed Cox for Crawley after he had been left out in the cold by Leyton Orient.

An inquest later found Drummy, who had one season in charge at the Broadfield Stadium, took his own life.

Cox tweeted earlier today: “A year ago today, we lost the nicest, kindest, caring person I have come across, along with being a top manager, never got the chance to say thank you for signing me, so thank you gaffer RIP.”

He then went out and honored Drummy on the pitch.

Cox, who scored in the original tie on Saturday, produced two fine finishes to put his side in charge of the replay and dedicated the goals to his former boss.

Dartford got back on terms before Borough grabbed the win from a corner right on 90 minutes as Tom Gardiner headed home. They will host Dorchester in the first round proper.

Crawley also honoured Drummy’s memory as they travelled to their League Two clash at Mansfield, which was ultimately called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

They tweeted: “Today we remember former head coach Dermot Drummy, who passed away one year ago today.”

Lewes went out of the Trophy but only after a real battle.

Rooks went down 3-2 in their replay at higher-division Hemel despite goals from Sam Karl and Harry Reed.
