If anyone still doubts the outstanding job Chris Hughton has done and continues to do for Albion, consider this.

They have more Premier League points than he has years.

Hughton is 60 tomorrow. That is one less than the points tally achieved under his calm command, 40 to survive last season, 21 that has them well on the way to safety again this season.

Albion are averaging 1.13 points per game since promotion, which is outstanding.

Consistent progression under Hughton looks like being maintained, from avoiding relegation in the Championship to the play-offs, going up, staying up and now potentially exceeding the club's highest ever finish of 13th under Mike Bailey.

There is still a long way to go, more than half-a-season. Hughton will certainly not be taking his eye off the ball.

Not with Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool on the horizon at the Amex, combined with tricky trips to Bournemouth, West Ham and Manchester United.

The division has developed into three tiers, not two - the top six, middle seven and bottom seven. Seven points divide Albion in 12th from Cardiff in 14th.

Having seven clubs all between three and four wins adrift is hugely comforting.

Hughton is entitled to a glass of wine to celebrate his birthday. He's earned it.
