Albion defender Bernardo revealed he felt a hamstring twinge in the incident which saw Michail Antonio set up Marko Arnautovic’s equaliser in the 2-2 draw at West Ham.

The Seagulls led 2-0 thanks to goals by Dale Stephens and Shane Duffy but Arnautovic's quickfire double earned the hosts a point at the London Stadium.

The left-back said: “I don’t know if it was when I stretched my leg to block the cross or if it was during the sprint.

“I hoped the ball had gone out of play. I tried my best but it was not enough.”

Bernardo, who had to go off, added: “I think we deserved to win overall.

“We took the lead, we were playing well and in five minutes it was a sort of blackout.”
