Crystal Palace have pulled out of a loan deal for Liverpool's Dominic Solanke, who is also of interest to Albion.

Palace chief Roy Hodgson has confirmed the season-long loan move for the 21-year-old striker is off.

Hodgson said: "It is a club decision. We were interested, I think he is a good player.

"It turns out there are complications, other factors involved in it, and the club decided in the end it was not the right moment for us to be doing it."

Solanke has not made an appearance for Liverpool so far this season and has been hampered in recent weeks by a muscle problem, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Argus confirmed last week that Solanke is a player Albion like and they have been tracking his progress.

They have an eye on the future as much as any immediate needs in January to help secure another season in the Premier League.

They are well on course, last night's draw at West Ham lifting their points tally to 26 with 17 games to go.

A total in the mid-thirties would probably be good enough to seal safety again. Albion have a good chance to exceed last season's 40 points and achieve their highest ever finish.

That was in 1981-82 under Mike Bailey when they ended up 13th - the position they currently occupy.
