George Cox has joined the flurry of Albion under-23s loan exits in January.

The left-back has been borrowed by League Two strugglers Northampton Town for the rest of the season.

Cox, 20, signed a one-year contract extension last month to 2020 following heart surgery in the summer.

Under-23s coach Simon Rusk said: "George has worked extremely hard to get to where he is and thoroughly deserves this opportunity to gain experience at senior level.

"He's played a number of games in the Checkatrade Trophy against EFL opposition and that experience should stand him in good stead to play against League Two clubs on a regular basis.

"He's proved an integral part of our under-23 side over recent seasons and we wish him all the best at Northampton for the remainder of the current campaign."

Cox played every league match last season as Albion won promotion to Premier League 2 Division 1. He has also been a regular during the current campaign.

He follows Ben White (Peterborough), Ben Barclay (Notts County) and Josh Kerr (Derry) in departing on loan during the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, Jordan Maguire-Drew joined Leyton Orient permanently after the winger was recalled from a loan with Wrexham.
