Stoke have announced they are in talks with former Albion stalwart Nathan Jones about their managerial vacancy.
The Potters sacked Gary Rowett yesterday following their poor first half of the season and Luton Town boss Jones appears favourite for the job.
"Stoke City can confirm that the club is in discussions with Nathan Jones over the vacant managerial position," the Sky Bet Championship club said on Twitter.
Luton announced they have given Stoke the all-clear to approach their manager.
"We can confirm that we have granted permission to Stoke City to speak to Nathan Jones over their managerial vacancy. We will update supporters on any further developments in due course," they posted on Twitter.
Jones played for Albion, returned as assistant manager when Oscar Garcia took charge and then became caretaker for two matches before the appointment four years ago of Chris Hughton.
David Moyes, Sam Allardyce, Derek McInnes and Martin O'Neill had all emerged as possible candidates to replace Rowett following his departure.
