Albion No.1 Mathew Ryan is through to the last 16 of the Asian Cup with holders Australia.
The Socceroos beat Syria 3-2 in their final group game in Al Ain this afternoon to finish runners-up to Jordan, their shock conquerors in their opening fixture.
Kenyan-born Awer Mabil gave Australia a 41st minute lead. Ryan was beaten two minutes later by Omar Khribin, following a fine save from his initial header, before Chris Ikonomidis restored Australia's advantage (54).
Syria equalised again with Omar Al-Soma's penalty ten minutes from time, but Celtic's Tim Rogic snatched a 93rd minute winner as Australia, needing only a point, clinched a clash against Japan or Uzbekistan on Monday.
Albion winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh could make his first appearance since he was injured at Everton in November when Iran play Iraq in their closing group fixture in Dubai on Wednesday (4pm). Both nations have already qualified.
