Ander Herrera has been hailed as the man helping make Paul Pogba tick.

Now a former Albion favourite has recalled the special night Herrera first lit up Old Trafford.

Both Spanish ace Herrera and French star Pogba are likely to be key men as Manchester United chase seven in a row.

The Red Devils have won all six matches under caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of the Seagulls;’ visit on Saturday.

Herrera’s history at the Theatre Of Dreams goes back seven years – to the night he helped an enterprising Athletic Bilbao win 3-2 in the first leg of a Europa League tie.

Ex-Albion man David Lopez (above), who was also part of the Athletic squad that night, told The Argus: “Ander is a player with whom it is easy to strike up an understanding.

“I only have good memories of him, both as a player and as a special person.

“As for the match, it was incredible to go to a ground like Old Trafford and produce the performance we did.

“We played some really good football and were better than United.

“A lot of people still talk about that match because of the football we played. It’s a great memory for all of us.”

Former United skipper Bryan Robson highlighted the work being put in by Herrera during United’s recent run.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Robson said of Pogba: “He is benefiting from being allowed to express himself in a more advanced area of the pitch and key to that is the role played by Ander Herrera.

“I love the energy Herrera brings.

“He works the park both ways, a little bit like Patrick Vieira used to do at Arsenal, and his discipline alongside Nemanja Matic enables Paul free rein to do his best.

“When I saw Paul last week in Dubai with the United squad, I had a little chat and congratulated him on the birth of his baby.

“He just seemed so relaxed and easy with things.

“Ole’s knowledge of the person Paul is has helped make him feel loved again.

“Some world-class players need that.”
