Albion winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh helped Iran into the Asian Cup quarter-finals with a goal in a 2-0 victory over Oman today.
Jahanbakhsh scored in the 32nd minute to put Iran ahead in their last 16 clash.
The winger punished hesitancy by Oman defender Mohammed Al-Musallami to barge him off the ball and then steer home with his right foot as keeper Faiyz Al Rusheidi advanced.
Oman had been denied an early lead when Iran keeper Alireza Beiranvand saved Ahmed Al Mahaijri’s penalty in the third minute.
Ashkan Dejagah doubled Iran’s lead after 41 minutes from the spot after a foul on Mehdi Taremi.
Jahanbakhsh came off in the 69th minute.
Seagulls goalkeeper Mathew Ryan is in action tomorrow for Australia in their last 16 game against Uzbekistan in Al Ain (2pm).
