Albion are interested in Bolton teenager Luca Connell, The Argus can confirm.

But they face reported competition in a bid to sign the 17-year-old midfielder before the transfer window shuts on Thursday evening.

Spurs, Southampton and Burnley are also keen on Connell, according to the Daily Mail.

He has made two appearances for cash-strapped wanderers this season, both in the FA Cup.

Connell provided an assist on his first start in last Friday's exit from the competition against Bristol City.

He is out of contract in the summer and Bolton could be persuaded to sell due to their financial worries.

Connell could make his league debut in tonight's key Championship relegation battle against Reading.

Albion have already demonstrated they are looking to the future in the January window by signing 20-year-old Argentinian midfield prospect Alexis Mac Allister.

He has been loaned back to Argentinos Juniors for the rest of the season.
