Albion under-23s’ first European adventure is over after they lost at home to Bayern Munich’s B team.

The Seagulls, needing a point to secure top spot in their group of the Premier League International Cup, went down 2-0 at the Lancing training complex.

Viktor Gyokeres had a shot saved at close range by Thorben Hoffmann with the closest either side came of the first half.

Albion had to defend well against a Bayern side who moved the ball sharply.

But the hosts almost went ahead after the move of the match midway through the second half which ended with Gyokeres heading back across goal and Danny Cashman nodding over.

Bayern, who lead their regional division of the senior fourth tier in Germany, were cheered on by a small but very enthusiastic and noisy band of fans who sang throughout the game, in German and English.

They were sent into raptures on 77 minutes when a corner was flicked on at the near post and Alexander Nollenberger turned it home at the far post.

Leo Ostigard almost levelled when he rose well at the far post but saw his header from a corner cleared right in front of goal.

But Daniel Jelisic added a very late second after a counter attack started by a brilliant turn from Kwasi-Okere Wreiedt.
