ALBION are facing a potentially harmful backlog of fixtures in the Premier League.

The Seagulls could end up three matches behind at the business end of the season.

Two games have already had to be postponed, away to Chelsea and at home to Cardiff.

This weekend’s visit to Stamford Bridge fell victim to Chelsea’s involvement in the Carabao Cup final, while Cardiff’s trip to the Amex on March 16 clashed with Albion’s FA Cup quarter-final at Millwall the following day.

The Seagulls’ fixture at Tottenham, earmarked as the first for Spurs at the much-delayed new White Hart Lane, has been shifted from Saturday April 6 to Sunday April 7 (4.30pm) for live coverage on Sky Sports.

The revised date is dependent on Albion not reaching the FA Cup semi-finals, to be played at Wembley that weekend, and Tottenham’s involvement in the Champions League.

Next month’s international break and Chelsea reaching the last 16 of the Europa League has prevented any early easing of the mounting fixture pile-up.

The Argus understands no rearrangements are likely before April.

That means relegation-threatened Albion could have to squeeze in nine games between early April and the last day of the Premier League season on May 12 if they reach the FA Cup semi-finals for the second time in their history.

Meanwhile, the kick-off time for Albion’s home game against Newcastle at the Amex on April 27 has been put back to 5.30pm for live coverage on BT Sport.
