MATHEW RYAN has called for a show of character from Albion to ease their relegation worries.

The FA Cup quarter-finalists resume their Premier League campaign at Leicester on Tuesday night after a damaging downturn of one win in their last 11 outings and a warm weather training break since a 3-1 home defeat by Burnley.

Keeper Ryan told The Argus: “Any game is a big game at this stage. We’ll give it our best and any game we go into I feel we are good enough to compete.

“It’s about how much we can sustain our levels throughout a performance to give ourselves the best chance of obtaining a result out of a match.

“That’s going to be the focus now. We’ve got to learn from our mistakes, move forward, bounce back and show a bit of character.”

Albion’s relegation anxieties may have deepened by the time they tackle Leicester as a result of a free weekend while all of their closest rivals are in action.

The clash against Leicester is followed by a trio of collisions with teams also battling to beat the drop – Huddersfield at home next Saturday, Crystal Palace away and Southampton at home, the latter after the FA Cup quarter-final at Millwall and an international break.

Ryan said: “We’ve still just got to focus on ourselves and make sure we are doing everything we can to get the results that we need.

“We’ve got fixtures at home where we are going to go into them expecting to win and be strong at home and on the road as well.

“We know when we are at the top of our game we are capable of getting results and points on the road as well. We’ve got to keep working harder than ever in order to get ourselves out of this little rut at the minute.”

Cardiff are still two points below Albion after a Gerard Deulofeu hat-trick helped Watford to a crushing 5-1 win in Wales last night.

Next-to-bottom Fulham remain ten points adrift of the Seagulls following a 3-1 defeat at West Ham.
