Still waiting for goals
Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of Brighton’s squad this term has been summer transfer signing Alizera Jahanbakhsh. The Iranian international arrived on a record transfer deal from AZ Alkmaar. Brighton paid £17 million for Jahanbakhsh, but he has only played 11 times with seven of his appearances coming off the bench. He has played 462 Premier League minutes scoring zero goals and contributing no assists.
In contrast, the highlight of Brighton’s season thus far has been the play of goalkeeper Mat Ryan. The Australian has played 22 times for Brighton, and when he was away on international duty in the midpoint of the season, he was greatly missed. Ryan is 11th in the Premier League in saves with 65. He has kept four clean sheets. Unfortunately, his four clean sheets are the third fewest in the league.
Relegation is a real possibility, but Brighton have a lot time left to rescue themselves. There are 36 points left to win. However, Hughton needs to get his team back in-form soon to stave off the drop.
