Solly March has a double wish to make sure his best season for Albion does not end in disaster.

He wants them to cut out the "crappy" goals they are conceding and to improve on his own modest return.

The winger maintained his ever-present record in the Premier League this season, matched only by Glenn Murray, in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Leicester.

He recovered from an ankle injury which forced him off in the previous game against Burnley to make his 26th start out of 27, more than any other player in Chris Hughton's squad.

March was replaced by Jurgen Locadia midway through the second half, immediately after Davy Propper halved the arrears to no avail as Albion regretted again soft goals leaked at one end for Demarai Gray and Jamie Vardy and chances missed at the other.

March (below) told The Argus: "It's the same old story most weeks really. We keep saying we need to stop conceding crappy goals.

The Argus: "We need to do it sooner rather than later and if we do that I think we will be alright.

"I've had almost a week's training now and I feel fine. I need to step up myself and start scoring goals as well.

"I'm playing games. I think I'm playing alright. Other than the goal stats I think I'm doing well.

"I've said for a long time I need to start scoring goals, so hopefully it happens soon."

March has scored once this season, in the 2-1 home defeat by Chelsea in December.

It was the same story last season, a rare header in the early part of the campaign at Bournemouth (below), after the winner against Wigan at the Amex which clinched promotion back to the top flight.

The Argus: Overall March has netted ten goals in 154 appearances for the club, the same as Glenn Murray's tally this season.

Murray was the chief culprit at Leicester with a glaring miss early in the second half and another less straightforward one at the end, but March admits he must contribute more himself in the goals department to avoid his best season finishing with relegation.

"I think so (best season)," he said. "I've played more minutes than I ever have. I think I have been helping the team well. I just need to add goals to my game. I keep saying it, that's what I need to do.

"We had a couple of chances. You can't fault Glenn, he's scored ten goals this season. He is going to have an off day and someone else has to step up."

The crowd at the King Power Stadium included England boss Gareth Southgate, who March played for in the under-21's, scoring with a spectacular strike against Denmark.

March accepts there is little prospect of forcing his way into Southgate's senior plans unless he improves his goals return.

The 24-year-old said: "Obviously I want to play for England. I think I need to do more at the attacking end of the pitch. If I do that you never know.

"But I need to start scoring goals to start thinking about that, but obviously it is an aspiration."

The Argus: March faces fresh competition for a place now that Jose Izquierdo (above) is back from injury.

The Colombian left-winger returned as a late substitute at Leicester from almost three months out with a recurrence of knee trouble sustained playing for his country at last summer's World Cup.

March moved to the left flank to accomodate the return to the league starting line-up of Anthony Knockaert against his old club.

Locadia has played mainly wide on the left, although he finished the match in the East Midlands partnering Murray through the middle.

Record signing Alireza Jahanbakhsh, an unused substitute on Tuesday, is also in the mix.

March said: "Everyone's fit, that's what you want. You want competition. It brings out the best in everyone. Hopefully I get another chance on Saturday."

Extra signifcance is now attached to rock-bottom Huddersfield's visit. They are still detached despite completing a double over Wolves.

After Saturday there will still be ten games left, enough time to pull away, but a bad result against the Yorkshiremen would leave everybody wondering where the next result is coming from after five defeats out of six and one victory in 12.

March said: "They are not bad performances, just sloppy moments in the game and sloppy positioning maybe from the whole team. We've not been as solid as we were at the start of the season or for the whole of last season.

"I think that's the key. That's what we are good at, so we need to start making that happen."
