And relegation rivals Southampton were undone by a late goal at Old Trafford against Manchester United as Seagulls clinched their vital win at the Amex to move five points clear of the drop zone.

Palace took a 15th-minute lead when Phil Bardsley put the ball in his own net from Jeffrey Schlupp’s cutback.

Palace doubled the lead in the 54th minute when Aaron Wan-Bissaka sent in a low ball which was swept in first time by Michy Batshuayi.

Wilfried Zaha made it 3-0 in the 76th minute with a good finish past Tom Heaton.

Ashley Barnes pulled a late goal back for the Clarets, who dropped to 16th place.
