Albion defender Martin Montoya wants a more meaningful taste of Wembley.

The Spanish right-back says reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup with Albion would outweigh his experiences in the Copa del Rey and a previous appearance at the home of English football.

Montoya featured in the semi-finals of the Spanish Cup last season with Valencia, losing both legs against his old club Barcelona.

The summer signing, who played for the Seagulls in the fourth round at home to West Brom, said: “The FA Cup is more important than the Copa del Rey in Spain.

“There are more teams. In the Copa del Rey the good teams always reach the final.

“In England you can play against teams in the Championship or maybe League One.

“I think it’s more difficult to play in the FA Cup than in Spain.

“It’s one game only and you can play against Championship or League One teams in their stadium, which is more difficult than playing at home.

“I played at Wembley for Barcelona in pre-season against Tottenham and Bale and Modric.

“The stadium was full but it would be more special now than in pre-season, because it’s the FA Cup.”

Boss Chris Hughton has to choose between Montoya and compatriot and veteran club captain Bruno for tomorrow’s quarter-final at Millwall.

Montoya said: “We are rivals for the same position but we have a very good relationship and he has helped me since the first day.”
