Shane Duffy is buzzing from an Irish win double as he returns to his club.

The Republic followed their 1-0 win in Gibraltar on Saturday with victory by the same scoreline over Georgia at the Aviva Stadium last night.

Duffy came through the fixture despite minor fitness concerns ahead of the game.

He played after a precautionary scan on an ankle injury which kept him out of Monday’s training session.

Duffy said: "We can only do what's in front of us. We've taken care of our first two games. No one really remembers the performances once you've got the win.

"It's a good start and now we can build on it. All of us are looking forward to coming back again. It's a fresh start for everyone.

"The players have got a new lift here and you could see that in some of the performances, which were superb. Exciting times, hopefully."

Albion boss Chris Hughton had always been confident Duffy would play.

He told The Argus: “We were aware he took a kick. It was nothing structural and a little bit of swelling.”

Duffy said returning Irish boss Mick McCarthy was pleased with a pair of wins and clean sheets.

The Seagulls star added: “He wanted the Irish fighting spirit back and I think that's what we showed.

"Obviously we were under the cosh a little bit in the second half but we stuck in there and ground it out in the end. I think we were the better team."

Now Duffy will target another double – a goal at home to Southampton on Saturday to go with that he headed home at St Mary’s in September.
