Andy Naylor and Brian Owen give their verdicts on the Albion players in the 1-0 defeat against Southampton at the Amex.

MATHEW RYAN 6: Quiet game for the keepers. Palms were stung by a first half shot from Redmond. Nothing the Australian could do about the decisive goal.

MARTIN MONTOYA 6: Came close to an equaliser, and his first Albion goal, when he struck the upright. Redmond posed one or two problems when drifting onto his flank.

SHANE DUFFY 7: Typically prominent inside his own box when the ball was in the air. Did well with his feet to set up Montoya's shooting opportunity.

LEWIS DUNK 6: Cleared a Bertrand shot close to his own line, which would have doubled the deficit. Made other blocks too, but below his best in possession.

BERNARDO 8: No argument with his man-of-the-match billing from sponsors. Produced a timely tackle on Ings when he looked sure to score and generally impressed again with his all-round game.

YVES BISSOUMA 6: A very bright and purposeful start faded in the second half and he was at fault on the goal, though Southampton punished him very well.

DALE STEPHENS 6: The usual debate. When he loses the ball is it because he was hesitant or lacked options! Looked like a combination of the two here.

DAVY PROPPER 5: Involved in a penalty appeal but was far from at his best and passing lacked precision at times. Taken off for the final stages.

ANTHONY KNOCKAERT 6: No lack of effort or desire. Caused some intermittent excitement and almost set up Duffy with a free-kick.

GLENN MURRAY 5: Never really given a sniff by either the tempo of Albion’s attacks or a Southampton defence who were praised by Hughton.

ALIREZA JAHANBAKHSH 5: His level of influence on proceedings has waned again after a couple of lively games. Wasted Albion’s best first-half move with a poor low cross.

Subs

SOLLY MARCH 5: Albion's game changer at Millwall but was poor this time.

JURGEN LOCADIA: Quite active as the second sub and at least forced a save with a sharp turn and shot.
