Boss Chris Hughton says Albion would be mad to go toe-to-toe with Manchester City.

But he insists there is a chance of upsetting the odds in tomorrow's FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

The 3-0 defeat at Chelsea in the Premier League on Wednesday night continued the Seagulls' struggles against the top six clubs, especially away from the Amex.

They host quadruple-chasing City on the final day of the season and have lost all three league meetings against them so far, conceding seven goals and scoring once.

Hughton believes the only plan that will give Albion a squeak against Pep Guardiola's star-studded side is to stay in the game for as long as possible.

He declared: "It's foolish to go toe to toe and I'm not embarrassed to say you have to try and contain them.

"If you play an open game they have too many options and too many strategies to open you up, starting with a goalkeeper who can play a pass from 70 yards.

"We have to stay in the game. We want to start well because the last thing you need is to be out of the game very quickly.

"If we are concentated, determined, have a good structure - and City don't have one of their better days - we have a chance.

"If we are defeatist from the moment we walk on the pitch there's only one outcome. We have to be positive about our chances."
