Chris Hughton has called on Albion to show the togetherness and fight which got them to the Premier League and has so far kept them there.

He says they are the qualities that will haul them away from relegation trouble in the remaining five games.

Albion’s lead over Cardiff is down to two points after losing to them at the Amex on Tuesday, the fifth defeat in a row in all competitions without a goal.

They go to Europa League qualification contenders Wolves tomorrow with Hughton, right, urging his players to rediscover the attributes which have underpinned their success.

Asked about the quality required to haul themselves to safety, he said: “The same quality which got us in the Premier League in the first place, the same qualities which have kept us here, two points above the relegation zone with five games to play - togetherness, battling qualities.

“There are some qualities we won’t have as much as the bigger teams, so we make up for it in other ways. That’s what this team were built on, and what we need to show plenty of.”

It has been business as usual at the club since the Cardiff defeat amid calls by an increasing number of supporters across social media outlets for a change of manager.

Hughton said: “You have to shut it out. As regards any criticism, its normal, understandable. We have so many media outlets, so many pundits, and everyone is going to have opinions and views. That’s part and parcel of the game.

“If there are going to be good things said about a team or individuals, then when things aren’t going so well you have to accept that’s how it is. You can’t afford to let that concern you. You have to improve in the next game, put that to one side, be big and brave enough to get results.

“I will always have regular chats with the chairman, Paul Barber, Dan Ashworth who has come in. They’re the ones I’ll speak to on a fairly regular basis.

“Most of that is about the games, performances, how things are, the week in training - there would be nothing different now to at any stage in the season.”
