Chris Jordan has praised Sussex supporters for showing their respect to Cameron Bancroft.

The Hove crowd applauded the Australia batsman to his first Championship century of the year.

Bancroft’s 120 at the top of the Durham card was his first ton in the competition since his ban for ball-tampering in South Africa.

Compatriots Steve Smith and David Warner have received a lot of stick from England fans for their part in the ‘sandpapergate’ scandal.

But it was a very different feel at the 1st Central County Ground as Bancroft led his side to 259-5.

Jordan said: “That’s how it should be. He has done his time after what happened in South Africa and stuff.

“Why shouldn’t he be welcomed back into the community like another player?

“He played decent but we will try and get him out quite early tomorrow.”

Jordan took 4-41 and had Gareth Harte dropped at slip but could not remove Bancroft.

The Sussex star added: “I thought we bowled well at him in periods but he managed to stick it out, go through the game, attack different bowlers at different times and he is a quality player.”
