Johanna Konta has crashed out of Eastbourne.
The local hope and 14th seed lost 6-3, 6-2 to Tunisian Ons Jabeur on court one at Devonshire Park today in the Nature Valley International.
Konta missed out on a golden opportunity to progress to the quarter-finals of her home town tournament for the second time in three years, and possibly beyond, in the favourable top section of the draw.
She led 3-2 with a break in the opening set against an opponent she beat in straight sets in their only previous meeting on hardcourt in Sydney four years ago.
Konta then lost the next six games in succession to drop the first set and trail 2-0 at the start of the second.
The writing was on the wall for the world No.19 when an inspired Jabeur, ranked 62, broke again to lead 4-1, aided by a telegraphed Konta drop shot.
