Jofra Archer has been awarded his first England contract.
But the Sussex star won’t make his Test debut in the forthcoming match against Ireland.
World Cup star Archer has been awarded an increment contract, the type of deal given to limited overs players who are not well-established in the Test team, by the ECB.
He is now heading to Barbados to rest the side strain which affected him during the World Cup.
The ECB will pay Archer a salary alongside his county deal and have a say in the amount of cricket he plays for his club.
He looks certain to play in the Ashes, ruling him out of Sussex’s Vitality Blast programme which starts at Hampshire on Friday.
