Yves Bissouma could be involved when Albion return to the Amex.
Head coach Graham Potter hopes the Mali midfielder will be available for the fixture against Burnley on September 14.
The Argus revealed on June 2 that Bissouma was likely to miss the start of the season after treatment on a persistent shoulder problem.
He will be the first of an injured trio, which also includes Ezequiel Schelotto and Jose Izquierdo, to return.
Potter said: “They are making good progress. I’m hopeful that Bissouma, maybe the Burnley match, some involvement.
“Schelotto, I’m not quite sure, maybe a bit more time. They are both getting close. Izquierdo is going to take a bit more time.”
Albion’s third round Carabao Cup tie at home to Aston Villa has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 24 (7.45pm) and tickets, which go on sale next week, have been reduced in price. Full details at brightonandhove albion.com
