Sussex duo Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan have been named in England squads to tour New Zealand this winter.

Pace bowler Archer, who was handed a central contract last week for Test and white-ball cricket, is unsurprisingly named in the Test squad while Jordan has been picked for the five-match T20 series which begins on October 27.

Archer, along with World Cup 50-over winners Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali, are not included in the T20 squad after their hectic summer. The first Test begins on December 3.

Sussex, meanwhile, recovered from 32-3 to finish on 150-5 on a rain-shortened first day of their County Championship match against Worcestershire at Hove thanks to half-centuries from Stiaan Van Zyl and Delray Rawlins.

There is nothing resting on the result for either side after a frustrating campaign which saw Sussex’s promotion hopes end with defeat to Derbyshire last week.

Van Zyl said: “It was nice to get some runs and I was disappointed to get out when I did because Delray and I had put together a good partnership.

“From a personal point of view, it’s been an OK season but extremely frustrating from a team point of view. We haven’t put together enough complete batting performances as a batting unit and, hopefully, the guys can go into their off-season, reflect on what they need to do and be better than we were this year.”
