Mick McCarthy has left Albion defender Shane Duffy out of his 24-man Republic of Ireland squad for the European Championship qualifiers with Georgia and Switzerland.

Centre-back Duffy came off against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup with a calf injury.

Teenage Seagulls striker Aaron Connolly is not included nor midfielder Jayson Molumby, who both impressed McCarthy in under-21 qualifiers for the Republic.

Molumby is on loan at Millwall.

Ireland play Georgia on October 12 and Switzerland on Tuesday October 15.

McCarthy has added Blackburn defenders Darragh Lenihan and Greg Cunningham to his squad as he deals with shortages at the back with Derby's Richard Keogh also out injured along with Duffy.

Left-back Enda Stevens is suspended for the first of the games in Tbilisi.

John Egan and Kevin Long are expected to deputise for Duffy and Keogh in central defence.

Lenihan, already capped twice by the Republic, adds to McCarthy's options, while Cunningham will challenge Matt Doherty for the left-back spot.
