Left-arm seamer Will Sheffield has signed a new contract with Sussex.

Injury ruled the 19-year-old out for the 2019 season but Sheffield is working back to full fitness following successful knee surgery during the summer.

The pathway graduate was the recipient of support from the Matthew Hobden Trust during his first year on the Sussex staff.

Sheffield said: “I was very pleased when I was told that I would be getting re-signed.

“The coaches have been behind me throughout this season and really happy that I get to extend my time here at The 1st Central County Ground.

“I’d like to reiterate my gratitude to the Matthew Hobden Trust for their support this year.”

Sussex head coach Jason Gillespie added: “I’m delighted to have Will in our professional squad. Will has had a tough year with injury, but he’ll be ready to go next year.

“I’m looking forward to him playing an important role for the club going forward.”

Sheffield is the first former pupil at the Aldridge Cricket Academy to be part of Sussex’s men’s professional squad.

Sussex Cricket works in partnership with the Aldridge Cricket Academy to allow male and female pupils at Brighton and Portslade Aldridge Community Academies to combine their academic studies with an intensive cricket development programme.
