Colombia boss Carlos Queiroz says he is excited to see what Steven Alzate can do in international football.
The London-born Albion midfielder was named in a final 23-man squad for friendlies against Peru and Ecuador.
He joins Amiens forward Steven Mendoza as a headline-making call-up for the two fixtures in the USA.
Queiroz said: “In the different squads we have given priority to some players and this time it was Alzate and Mendoza’s turn.
“I’ve been watching them and both fill positions which are open in the national team.
“I’m very excited about Alzate because he is playing very well and, as a midfielder, he has the characteristics which suit the needs of this team.”
Alzate’s former colleagues in the Seagulls’ under-21s secured top spot in their section of the Leasings.com Trophy last night.
Danny Cashman’s goal helped them draw 1-1 at his previous club Leyton Orient to go through to the knockout phase. The hosts then won a shootout 4-2 to collect the second point on offer.
