Graham Potter might use some lessons learnt with minnows Ostersunds as a he plots a raid on Old Trafford.

Albion’ head coach has revealed how he tried to pull off shock results in Europe when he was working in Sweden.

Although the Seagulls are above Manchester United in the Premier League table, they are likely to start today’s game as underdogs.

Potter was asked whether he can take anything from those European dates with Ostersunds as his side visit one of the continent’s most famous arenas.

He said: “It was always about trying to develop your own game, trying to be yourself even in the most difficult environment.

“We tried to be ourselves, as an example, away in Galatasaray. The game in itself, we weren’t able to do it to the level we wanted to do it.

“But still you go there with an idea to do it and then, of course, you have to adapt to whatever the opposition are throwing at you, because you can predict how you think it’s going to go, you can have a plan and an idea, but in the end the Galatasaray crowd was just too much, the atmosphere was amazing and they drive you back quite a lot.

“You have to have a defensive organisation that, if you can’t do your offensive plan, at least you can stay in a game and try to hold on to a result.

“You have to have an idea, a plan, try to be yourself, but also understand that the game can throw something different at you and be able to adapt.”
