Albion midfielder Emily Simpkins says Albion need to not get carried heading into their game with Manchester United.

The Seagulls have won three games on the trot in all competitions.

In these three wins they have scored eight goals and keep three clean sheets.

Simpkins, who played a key part in the wins over Birmingham and London Bees in the Conti Cup says that there is still a long way to go.

She said: “I think it’s about enjoying it and that was big for us as you can tell on the day, with how we celebrated it.

“Points are massive in this league, so it is about enjoying it now but we are not getting carried away because there is a long way to go.

“It’s about knowing what we did that day and can we take it into Manchester.”

Simpkins went close to getting on the scoresheet herself against Birmingham seeing her header from Lea Le Garrec’s cross being tipped onto the bar.

However in the Conti Cup, 14 minutes after coming on as a substitute Simpkins got on the scoresheet, scoring their third goal of the night in a 5-0 win.

The midfielder says her belief in herself is starting to pay off.

She said: “This is what we work hard for because in football you have your ups and downs.

“There has been times where I have been on the bench and it’s about keep believing in yourself and the memories I have got from Sunday I’ll cherish them now.

“It’s just about knuckling down especially here and keep putting a performance in for the team.”

Despite picking up the win and keeping a clean sheet, manager Hope Powell said after the game that her side could improve on some things and Simpkins spoke about these improvements.

She said: “It’s that consistency for us because from Sunday we played some great football, but it wasn’t consistent enough. For us now it is just building on that and can we see more of that good football throughout the 90 minutes, rather than just here and there.

“That is the great thing with Hope, the standards are set high and we can’t just sit on that performance from Birmingham and think that is okay.”

One downside from the game against Birmingham was the injury to Ellie Brazil.

The forward was taken off in the 19th minute after injuring her knee when she won the penalty, which striker Kayleigh Green scored from.

Simpkins spoke about big a blow it will be.

She said: “It is a shame, it was hard to see because I know she was in some distress on the pitch.

“But we don’t know the outcome yet, so we are still hopeful, but we have got girls that will come in and take responsibility.

Albion travel to newly-promoted Manchester United on Sunday, who sit fifth in the table and Simpkins knows it is going to be a challenge.

She said: “There is no easy game in this league and we know that.

“Manchester United is going to be a challenge, I know a couple of the players there and they have got quality throughout the squad.

“But we are going there for a performance and we want some points.”

Albion are looking to improve on last season’s ninth place finish and Simpkins hailed the difference two of Albion’s signings have made.

She said: “I think it is the depth in the squad because as you can see the team has changed.

“Different personal has come in and it is confidence within every player.

“Hope made that clear from the beginning, everyone will be used and when people are asked to step up, they have done.”
