Graham Potter will tell Albion to believe they can beat Arsenal – as the bottom three close in.

Southampton’s 2-1 win over Norwich last night left the Seagulls just a point clear of 18th place, now occupied by Everton, as they prepare for action at the Emirates tonight (8.15pm).

Potter is aware things can change quickly in terms of positions in the Premier League.

His side were eighth after beating Norwich but have since lost three tough fixtures.

Potter said: “If you keep working, if you keep doing what you are doing and believing, ultimately, I think that’s important for us.

“If we could win it would be nice for our confidence, nice for our points tally. It would be nice for everything so we’ll try.

“Before the Manchester United game, if we had won that game I think we would have gone fifth in the table. Then we play Manchester United, Leicester and Liverpool and things turn quickly.

“Any result gives you confidence but particularly if you can go to a top-six team.

“We have played Manchester City away, Chelsea away, Manchester United away, Liverpool away and now Arsenal away. We are at the start of our process and it isn’t so easy but we have learned a lot.”

Solly March (groin) is out for Albion while Arsenal will assess Hector Bellerin’s hamstring injury ahead of Freddie Ljungberg’s first home game in interim charge.
