Bernardo is in pole position for a run of games at left-back.
The Brazilian impressed as sub for injured Dan Burn, who faces six to eight weeks out with a broken collarbone.
Albion also have Gaetan Bong on their books and under-23s skipper Alex Cochrane or the option of Steven Alzate as wing-back.
Boss Graham Potter said: “I thought Berny did really well.
“That’s life, you are going to get those collision-type problems in football.
“Then it is about the group and the squad adjusting.
“(Bernardo) is an obvious replacement. We have a couple of other solutions we could use as well.
“Dan has been fantastic.”
