Graham Potter said his Albion side were not good enough in the final third at Everton.
And it cost them any reward thanks to a moment of “high quality” from Richarlison.
The Seagulls went down 1-0 but went close to levelling through Leandro Trossard and Glenn Murray.
Head coach Potter said: “We could have had something. “There were a couple of opportunities that fell to Glenn at the end.
“We hit the bar and I thought we got into the final third quite often without really doing well enough and creating enough chances to say we deserved something.
“You get what you get and our disappointment is that we probably didn’t do enough in the final third to create as many chances as we would have liked to put them under pressure.”
Albion were poor in the first half.
Potter said: “We gave the ball away when we had opportunities to keep it.
“That means you get driven back. We wanted to try and put them under a bit more pressure and we weren’t able to.”
He added: “The difference is a bit of high quality.”
