Graham Potter is willing to accept he might have under-used Glenn Murray this season.

But he will be delighted if that means Albion have a hungry and fresh goal-getter on their hands for the Premier League run-in.

Murray hopes to celebrate his new contract by helping Albion beat Watford at the Amex tomorrow (5.30pm).

If, as expected, he starts, it would be the first time he has been in Potter’s XI at the Amex since September.

He marked his return to the starting line-up with a late equaliser at West Ham last Saturday.

Asked whether he had under-used Murray, head coach Potter said: “Quite possibly. That’s the beauty of hindsight, everyone is wise after the event.

“We’ve had times when we’ve used Neal Maupay and Aaron Connolly and not used Glenn as much.

“Hopefully the good thing about whatever decisions we’ve made is that we’ve now got a player who is very hungry, a player who hasn’t got a lot of minutes in his legs up to this point and so can go in and hit the last 13 matches in a really good way.

“In my job you can’t be in denial, if you have ever made a mistake or you could do something differently then you need to be able to see that, because that can help you improve and move forward.

“That’s the approach I have always taken in my career.”

Murray famously urged nervous Albion fans to calm down after scoring a crucial goal against Blackburn in their promotion push three years ago.

Potter hopes his experience can be equally valuable in the push to retain that hard-won elite status.

He added: “The more people that you have that have an understanding of what’s required, the better.

“It makes my job a bit easier. I think he’ll help us in a big way.”
