Albion remain three places above the drop zone after Aston Villa lost 3-2 to a last-minute goal against Tottenham.

Son Heung-min's stoppage time goal secured the win for Spurs at Villa Park to leave the Villans still only a point above the relegation places in 17th.

The Seagulls are 15th and three points above West Ham, who occupy the final relegation spot.

Villa took the lead in the ninth minute when Toby Alderweireld turned Anwar El Ghazi's deflected cross into his own net under pressure.

Villa came close to doubling their lead when Jack Grealish broke free down the left side before cutting the ball back to Douglas Luiz, whose shot was deflected over by Davies' knee.

Tottenham levelled things up in the 27th minute courtesy of a delightful goal from Alderweireld.

The defender made amends for his earlier own goal, turning and firing into the net after Villa had switched off at a corner.

Tottenham went 2-1 up in first-half stoppage time when Son Heung-min scored on the rebound after missing from the penalty spot.

Spurs were awarded the penalty following a VAR check after Engels had fouled Steven Bergwijn in the box.

Pepe Reina saved Son's spot-kick but could only parry the ball into the path of the Tottenham man, who made no mistake at the second time of asking.

Just as Alderweireld had done in the first half, Engels redeemed himself as he headed Villa level in the 53rd minute.

But the late drama when Son burst forward and slotted past Reina following a defensive mistake by Engels denied Villa a vital point in the fight for survival.
